UN Climate Summit 2026: A Decade After Paris, Leaders Confront an "Inevitable" Overshoot

Meeting in New York on 23 September 2026, UN Secretary-General António Guterres convened government, business, and finance leaders for the Climate Summit 2026. Ten years after the Paris Agreement, the summit acknowledged that overshoot of the 1.5°C threshold is now inevitable even as the energy transition accelerates, with leaders taking stock of progress and setting out plans to strengthen energy security, advance climate justice, and protect vulnerable communities. Leaders called for faster deployment of proven solutions, a shift to clean energy, increased climate finance, stronger resilience, and renewed international cooperation.
